I liked this little black dress until I saw the back detail, and then I loved it! WOW this is a head turner! The slinky figure hugger will look just great on it’s own – simple yet a real statement.

hotvalentine3Team it up with some sexy stockings, or how about these heart seam tights from Emilio Cavallini for something really different. If you buy them now you can get 10% off (offer ends 11th February 2009)!

What’s the funkiest item of clothing you’ve ever owned?

February 6, 2009 - 12:24 pm No Comments

How are we defining funky – firstly it’s important to get this right – We’re using the offbeat, unconventional or eccentric meaning of the word Funky!

Some of my own personal favourites over the years have been a pair of doc marten’s red patent leather shoes. Bright red. Beautiful. Funky. I was the girl with the red shoes for a couple of years. They were completely different to any shoe I’d ever seen before – no one I knew would have worn them but they were constantly on my feet until they wore out a couple of years later. I thought they were the bees knees of shoes! I was at this time a huge fan of shoes and boots and had about 30-40 pairs that I filled my wardrobe with. I had some grey snakeskin boots that had been my previous funky favourite and they were sadly demoted with the red shoes entering the arena.

If you’re looking for funky clothes then you probably want to stay away from the big high street chains. Some of them have a urban street cred range but often it’s fairly mass market and not quite individual enough to make you stand out. If you’re first to wear something then you can get away with this, but if you look at something and can instantly think of when you saw someone else wearing it then you’re onto a bad thing. Being unique is often something we crave whilst acquiescing to a stereotype. Be bold. Be beautiful. But most of us, be you!

If you want to wear that metaphoric pair of red shoes then go for it. If you want to wear cutting edge fashion then go for it. If you love your ancient hand knitted jumper with lemmings on it, then go for it! Fashion is about what we wear and who we are. We make the clothes look fantastic!

When you’re looking for what’s new watch out for new colours in your favourite items. Sometimes rather than design an entirely new products they’ll revamp a favourite by changing the colour and bringing out a new shade that’ll make the item look completely different. This happens sometimes with trainers like Converse – just when you think you’ve seen it all from them, they release a new colour trainer and you have to have that one too!

Do you look for what’s new and feel you have to have it? You’re suffering from a syndrome we refer to as “UpToDatitis” – it’s perfectly normal for people to want to look unique and keeping an eye on what’s new is the way to achieve this. When you’re on a budget it’s essential to keep an eye on what’s bargains are appearing too – making sure you get a bargain is really important – so how do you do this. You can browse many shops by price – and if you look through your favourite brands with an eye on reductions you might just find what’s on offer!

Offbeat street fashion is incredibly popular at the moment – there’s a constant stream of new clothing and it’s covered by different styles with surfer boy and skater boy styling being very popular and sometimes confusingly close. You don’t have to label yourself to buy clothes though – buy the items you like! Buy clothes that you look good in. Buy clothes that make you feel fantastic!

Shopping for Clothes Online

January 26, 2009 - 12:19 pm No Comments

Why shop online?

Sometimes it’s difficult to get to the shops, because of work, or family commitments, and the shops are always packed when you go at the weekend. If you dislike crowds, packed changing rooms, or worse communal changing rooms, then you’ll appreciate the joys of shopping online.

You know what size you are – and if you’re concerned that something might be too tight, or too big you can always send it back. Returns are easy – sometimes even couriered for you back to them too!

Some stores allow you to have items delivered to work addresses once you’ve got your account with them set up. This makes getting your clothes even easier.

It’s not just the crowds in the clothes shop at the rails you have to worry about, the queue for the till in some shops can be massively long – especially if you’re struggling for time on a lunch break – it’s not very relaxing to queue up for most of your lunch hour! If you’re short of time the last thing you want to do is spend hours in a shop looking for something they might not have in your size. Online shopping allows you to see what’s available and whether it’s in your size without moving from the chair you’re sat comfortably in.

Unlike real shops you can’t get other people’s opinions on whether something is nice or not. Lots of online clothes shops allow you to post reviews of items so other people can hear what you think about a product. Giving reviews means you’re contributing to making online shopping better for other people too! OK, you might say, I can ask the shop assistant – but she’s there to sell the item to you, so is she really going to tell you about it’s problems?

You can shop online even if you’re not well, or the weather is freezing cold! Shopping online for clothes is just so simple. Different shops have different ways of doing things – virtually all of them have search options, or you can just browse clothes by category, colour or size. The range of online shops is amazing and there’s always something new being added for you to look at!

Motel Rocks

January 25, 2009 - 12:53 pm No Comments

motelrocks click hereWe got in touch with future global fashion group Motel Rocks and asked them to tell us about themselves and where their inspiration for their stunning collection of clothing came from… if it’s cool, it’s Motel Rocks.

“Rifling through the fabulous thrift stores of the West Coast of the States all the way back in 1999, the Motel crew was struck by something. A realisation spoke to them; the UK needed a vintage-inspired, prints-driven brand to sink their hungry for innovative fashion teeth into. Motel was born, creating classy and stunningly-crafted tops, trousers, dresses and skirts in a huge array of styles and with an ever-expanding list of inspirations.”

“While the name Motel may conjure up images of seedy establishments to some, it also calls to mind classic, affordably-priced American living and décor, which is where Motels come in. The brands provide the young British fashionista with a veritable thrift-store feel that looks great, fits fabulously, and does not cost the earth. Each season’s broad range of influences prove testament to Motel’s promise to be driven by diversity, as well as the brand’s enduring versatility and each season, they choose stories that provide a running commentary for their collection.”

“Motel feels no need to splatter their name across the chest of their clothes in an inane effort to get more punters; they need no gimmicks or tricks for the crowds to come flocking. The joy of Motel is that they are doing it all for you, giving you massively high quality and beautiful vintage-inspired designs at affordable prices. And they’re doing it all for the consumer. Fancy that in this day and age; they really know how to take those all-American metaphors and create a rip-roaring success story.”

“While Motel has yet to be discovered by the behind-the-times magazines du jour, the A-lists are flocking to Motel to get their hands on gorgeous goods. Supermodels Gisele, Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell are already fans, and Fern Cotton, Lauren Lavern and Meg White are supporters of the brand. Even habitually tweed-clad Chelsea Clinton knows the good stuff when she sees it, donning Motel tops on her (admittedly few-and-far-between) nights out Stateside.”

“Right about now, Motel are launching into the denim arena; their collection will undoubtedly be as well-fitting as we have come to expect. Who knows, next season might even come with a hardcore cowgirl theme. Motel are quickly becoming a powerhouse of the fashion market, and what’s more, they’re ready to inspire you to inch a bit more quirk into your wardrobe. Remember they’re doing it just for you, and make the most of it!”

So it’s pretty clear that Motel Rocks are going places.
